6 Books That Changed the Way I Think (about myself)

The last two weeks we really dove into goal setting, task creation, and planning. If you’ve signed up for my free 5-day goal setting and planning email course, you’ve gone even deeper.

And just in case you haven’t signed up for it, I wanted to share with you the 6 books that really helped me transform my thinking and actions when it comes to goals and planning.

The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington - If you’ve ever been in any kind of sales job, whether retail or B2B, you are very familiar with the year-end goals. It’s amazing what happens in the last couple weeks of the year when everyone is trying to hit their yearly goals. What would happen if, instead, you treated one quarter like a year? What could you accomplish if you had that sprint four times a year instead of just once?

Big Dreams Daily Joys by Elise Blaha Cripe - In case you’re like me and you need permission to a) try something new and b) give up on that thing, Elise will give it to you. Not only does she make goal setting so simple, so also preaches reevaluating those goals to ensure they continue to align with what you truly want, and stopping if they don’t.

The Perfect Day Formula by Craig Ballantyne - Scripting the day is popular right now and I think this book is one of the reasons why. Deciding what your perfect day will feel like and then working backwards from there to schedule is a wonderful way to work towards your dreams.

The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman - This is set up as a daily motivational, with about a half page per day focused on a teaching or principle of the stoics. While this is not specifically related to goal setting and planning, I think that a dose of daily self-reflection is always in order.

Do the F*cking Work - Lowbrow Advice for High-Level Creativity by Jason Bacher, Brian Buirge, and Jason Richburg - If you do not like swearing, this is (obviously) not the book for you. But if you don’t mind it, this is a lovely, graphically designed book on overcoming obstacles and getting the work done.

Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin - Gretchen’s concept of the four tendencies truly helped me rework my thought process around how and why I do things. Understanding oneself is the real key to accomplishing big things in life.

Have you read any of these? What did you think?
